Bring home the bacon

One origin story traces this to the Dunmow Flitch Trials in Great Dunmow, England, dating to 1104. Married couples who could prove they had not argued for a year and a day were awarded a "flitch" (side) of bacon. Another theory connects it to greased pig competitions at county fairs, where catching the pig meant you brought home the bacon.
