This American expression meaning "everything" or "the full extent" has a disputed origin. Commonly attributed to WWII fighter plane ammunition belts measuring 27 feet, cement trucks, or Scottish kilts, none of these explanations has been verified. The earliest known print appearance is from 1962 in a Kentucky newspaper.
