Going postal

This dark American phrase for going violently berserk originated from a series of incidents in the 1980s and 1990s where United States Postal Service workers committed mass shootings at their workplaces. The term entered the American lexicon after a particularly deadly 1986 incident in Edmond, Oklahoma, and was formally defined in the mid-1990s.
