Sell like hotcakes

Hotcakes (pancakes) were a hugely popular treat at church fairs, carnivals, and frontier gatherings in 19th-century America. They sold so quickly that vendors could barely keep up with demand. By the 1840s, the phrase "selling like hotcakes" was established as a metaphor for anything that sells rapidly and in large quantities.
